Magda Linette beat Anastasia Zakharova 7-6(6) 6-4 in Guangzhou on 27 October, their only meeting, and Superior has her to win the rematch for a place in the Chennai final. Zakharova lost three of her four other matches between 18 and 27 October, all in straight sets, before arriving in India.

An 8-6 tiebreak decided the Guangzhou meeting
